The Martha Washington Questers met on March 25, at the home of Marilyn Whitenack in Washington. Eight members were present. A delicious luncheon was given by Marilyn and co-hostess Sharon Hough.
Business was discussed and two thank-you notes were read. The International Questers meeting will take place in May, and five members from this group plan to attend.
Marilyn gave the program, which began with an explanation of glass baskets. A ?Brides Basket? was given to a bride to place on the library table. It was confirmed by another member of the group, Mary Statler, that this indeed was a custom that was practiced in earlier times.
The program continued with what could only be called ?The Parade of Dolls.? Marilyn removed dolls from her glass cabinet, and they were passed around so each person could get a closer look. There was much unique information about each one. Among the many shown were a Shirley Temple doll made by Ideal; a 1920s doll made of celluloid; a wax oven doll; a doll who placed high in a doll show, named Annabelle, with a book of the same name illustrated by Tasha Tudor; the ?Campbell Kids? dolls; two early porcelain ?Betty Boop? dolls; an 1812 matronly looking doll with keys around her waist (so things would not be stolen out of the pantry, etc.); a William McKinley soap doll; and a Native American doll from an authentic Native American tribe. These were a sample from the immense collection of dolls that Marilyn owns, and this brief visit into the world of doll collection was enjoyed by all.
