The Leon Beatty American Legion Auxiliary Unit 29 met on May 9. President Sue Gilmere called the meeting to order at 7 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and reading of the Preamble and a prayer by Dixie Young. Officers? reports followed.
Sue had copies of the County and Regular Meeting from April, as well as the District Dispatch. She also gave a brief report on the District Meeting from April 22; the white elephant sale raised $902 for campaign expenses for the person running for the position of national president. Mary Littrell, the unit?s VA representative, said the VA was in need of lab blankets, 50 inches by 60 inches; and she talked about the pizza parties she does once a month for birthdays.
In the absence of Dixie Conrad, Dixie Young gave the treasurer?s report. Dixie Young gave the poppy update. There may not be enough poppies to distribute for all three days, since there is a shortage. She had the sign-up sheet and planned to take it to the car show Saturday night and make phone calls for help. She said she would call if the auxiliary ran out of what they had from previous years. She planned to take some poppies to the nursing homes.
Sue told the group that Claudia Bishop?s mother had died, and Mary Marek?s son Jim had died. The mothers are American Legion Auxiliary members.
The group discussed the car show on May 13 and on the second Saturday of each month throughout the summer, and no meetings for the American Legion Auxiliary from June through August.
Martha Hahn said one of her Girls State girls was unable to attend, and she would try to find a replacement. Everyone present signed cards to send to the girls while they are at Girls State.
Connie moved to keep all the present officers, and the motion carried. The list of officers for 2017-18 is: president, Sue Gilmere; vice president/historian, Connie Pence; treasurer/membership, Dixie Conrad; secretary, Carla McCandless; chaplain, Dixie Young; Girls State, Martha Hahn; poppy chair, Dixie Young.
Sue adjourned the meeting, followed by Dixie Young?s giving the closing prayer.
