October meeting at the Wayland Community Center. There were 16 members and two guests present.
President Ron Marsh called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Brian Pattyson gave the Invocation before the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hofstettler.
At the resumption of the meeting Carol Shumaker read the secretary minutes and Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer?s report, which were both approved unanimously.
Eight Wayland Lions participated in Tip Night at an area restaurant. The tips and donation will go toward charitable projects in the Wayland Community.
Brian Pattyson updated the Wayland Lions on the status of the WACO Leo Program that was started in 2001. WACO faculty that will be advisers are Barbi Roth, Jason Liegois and Mark Beerends. Police Chief Ron Roth will assist with community members.
The WACO Leos are students aged 12 to 18 who gain leadership skills by helping with community projects. WACO Leos elected Kasey Sutton president, Roman Kiefer vice president, Emily Thompson treasurer and Paige Holmes secretary. The WACO Leos are supported by the Wayland, Crawfordsville and Olds Lions clubs.
The Wayland Lions Club approved funds to be donated to the following causes:. Mr. Burdean Graber, Wayland Youth Center, Wayland Museum, Camp Courageous, Iowa Lions Eye bank and Leader Dogs for the Blin.
Fire Chief Matt Leichty was the guest speaker and shared some interesting information about Wayland?s Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders: They average between 90 to 130 calls per year and average 25 volunteers. Volunteers have 100 plus hours of training followed by 24 hour training update every twoyears. The new firetruck will cost $235,000; $30,000 still needs to be raised.
The Wayland Lions Club members expressed their appreciation and gratitude to all volunteers for their dedicated service!
Fire Chief Leichty invites all to attend their Pancake Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wayland Fire Station. Proceeds will be used toward the $30,000 remaining on the New Fire Truck.
The Wayland Lions Club is always welcoming new like-minded citizens anxious to help and give back to their community. Please call Terry Kaufman at People?s Bank, 319 256-2131, if interested. We hold our meetings the third Tuesday of every month at the Wayland Community Center and a delicious meal is offered to participants for a fee.
