T.T.T. Chapter E Fairfield celebrates its 90th birthday.
PHOTO SUBMITTED T.T.T. Chapter E Fairfield celebrates its 90th birthday. Seventeen members and five guests gathered for dinner complete with a birthday cake, Dec. 4 at the Fairfield Elks Lodge. The women reminisced and shared a favorite memory during their years of T.T.T. membership. Jane Rowe shared happenings and prices from 1928 as well as some history of Chapter E. The evening ended with door prizes and visiting with each other. T.T.T. is a national organization whose purpose is to send little girls to camp each summer. It was founded June 30, 1911, in Mt. Pleasant by six women who noted there were so many things for boys in Mt. Pleasant to do, and places for them to spend evenings, but aside from the girls in college or high school there was not much to call the rest of the girls together. Gladys Stewart Walters, after graduating from college, together with Bess Cook, Mary Firebaugh, Ethel Stewart, Myrl Krieg and Mabel Stewart, all from Mt. Pleasant, met on June 30, 1911, on the steps of the Oakland Mills Club House. A name was not yet decided upon but they did know that they wanted to be of service and to include charity in their new club. Because of these six ladies, T.T.T. ladies in many states across the U.S. use their time, talents, and treasures to send deserving girls who have completed fourth grade to camp for a week at no charge to their families.
