Shirley Kitch, treasurer, reported the following: $25 donation received from Charles and Karen Ruby; $100 was donated to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight; $50 was sent for veterans needs at the VA Hospital in Iowa City; $400 was sent to sponsor a Fairfield High School junior to Girls State, which will be June 16-22 at Drake University in Des Moines; $15 to Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Inez Hisel; poppies have been ordered for 2019 Poppy Days; and shared the expense of The Fairfield Ledger Veterans Day centerfold. Kitch also noted all District and State Auxiliary obligations have been met.
Joyce Countryman and Linda Hendricks delivered 25-30 Veterans Day cards from the Auxiliary for veterans residing at SunnyBrook Assisted Living and Parkview Care Center. Darlene Vorhies indicated that thank you notes were sent from the auxiliary to the Elks Lodge, Hy-Vee and Pizza Ranch for offering a free meal to veterans on Veterans Day.
It was noted that Marlene Valentine has retired from American Legion Auxiliary of Iowa after being its executive director for nearly
24 years. Cindy Burney has been employed as the new executive director.
The American Legion Auxiliary will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2019; the local auxiliary hopes to take part in some state and nationwide activities in celebration.
