Fairfield Girl Scouts

Fairfield Girl Scouts will have a Discovery Night for new Girl Scouts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Fairfield Girl Scout Cabin in Old Settlers Park adjacent to Waterworks Park.

The event is open to all Jefferson County girls in second-grade and up.

American Legion Auxiliary Post 29

The American Legion Auxiliary Leon Beatty Post 29 in Washington has kept busy over the summer. Members were involved with placing flowers and flags on veterans' graves for Memorial Day. They sponsored three bake sales during the Corn County Cruisers' car shows in Washington. The president attended the district meeting, and the unit mourned the loss of several members, Julie Wells, Shirley Miller, Helen Lease, Martha Chabel. They also sent four girls to Girls State.

The organization's first meeting for the new season is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Washington County Ambulance Center in Washington.
