TTT, Chapter DL of WASHINGTON
Thirteen members and one guest attended the Monday, Sept. 9, meeting of the T.T.T., Chapter D.L. of Washington in the Harvest Room at Halcyon House in Washington.
Robyn Lamb and Phyllis Eisele were hostesses.
Denise Chalupa reported she sent two birthday cards to former campers in September.
Linda McNeil and Janet Peterson will be delegates to the 60th National T.T.T. Convention at the Marriott Hotel in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 24-26. Robyn Lamb and Cathy Lewis are the alternate delegates.
Phyllis Eisele presented the new pricing for the fundraising nut sales this fall. She issued the order forms to the members. Order forms are to be returned to her by Friday, Oct. 4.
Election of officers was held: Robyn Lamb - president, Janet Peterson - vice president, Julie Mangold - recording secretary, Kim Prier - corresponding secretary, Cathy Lewis - treasurer, and Martha Hahn - historian. Installation of officers will be held at the October meeting.
Members voted to give a donation from the Sunshine Fund to the HACAP preschool birthday bag project, and the clothes closet at Stewart School.
The next meeting will be held Monday, Oct. 14, in the Harvest Room at Halcyon House. Martha Hahn and Denise Chalupa will be hostesses.
Henry County Heritate Trust
Henry County Heritage Trust held its monthly meeting Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Donald Young Library at the Henry County Museum in Mt. Pleasant.
Seven board members were able to attend: Waunita Gibbons, Terry McNair, David Van Allen, Ken Vandevoort, Mona Gates, David Gates and Pat White.
Special guest Ann Bailey presented a preliminary design for Henry County Heritage Trust's new website. After months of work and input, the website is projected to launch in late 2019 or early 2020.
Plans are underway to host University of Iowa President Harreld and the physics department for a tour of the Van Allen House later in the fall. Reunion committees have arranged for museum tours: Class of 1969, Saturday, Sept. 7; Class of 1959, Saturday, Sept. 28; and Class of 1956, Saturday, Oct. 12.
Thursday afternoons continue to be workdays at the museum. Volunteers have been sorting and organizing files of the county churches, rural schools and houses of Mt. Pleasant for researching.
Glenda Campbell's 'History of Westwood” program Saturday, Aug. 17 was well attended and very informative. Joe Campbell shared his knowledge of Mt. Pleasant's fire department during a free presentation on Saturday, Sept. 14.
It was announced that grant money from the William and Donna Hoaglin Foundation has been received. The funds will be used for protective window covering throughout the museum.
Several significant donations were recently received: a photo album found in Cedar Falls, including dozens of original Will Dyall photos from the early 1900s; children's clothing from the Van Allen family; a block of magnesium limestone found in Westwood, and 42 large, aerial photos of Mt. Pleasant industries during the 1970s.
Henry County Heritage Museum is open 1-4 p.m. every Saturday, May through October and any other times by appointment. The Van Allen House is open by appointment only. Admission is free; donations are welcome. Contact 319-385-4983.
