American Legion Auxiliary No. 47
Members of American Legion Auxiliary No. 47 met in regular session recently at the VFW. with Floyd West as a guest. In the absence of President Linda Hendricks, the meeting was conducted by Darlene Vorhies. Joyce Countryman, chaplain, said a prayer, and all said the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, followed by the Auxiliary Preamble led by Shirley Kitch.
It was learned that Linda Hendricks was in the hospital recovering from injuries following an automobile accident the day before. It has since been learned that she is now home, has someone with her all the time, but improving.
Shirley Kitch, treasurer, reported the bimonthly $50 has been sent for veterans needs at the VA Hospital, for which a thank you has been received, and another will be sent within the week. Twenty-five dollars was sent to Department to assist with expenses at Girls State, and $100 donation was sent to Southern Iowa Honor Flight. She also reported receiving $50 from Kathy Kitch in memory of Rita VanDerSnick. Thank you's were read from First Presbyterian Church for donation in memory of Violet Brown, from family of Bev Schrum for donation to Humane Society, and from Jim and Diane Shank for camp donation in memory of Rita VanDerSnick. A total of 1,100 poppies will be ordered for distribution next May.
Darlene Vorhies announced that Mary Andersen has moved to Wisconsin, but plans to retain membership with the local Auxiliary, and assist in selecting a Fairfield High School Junior for 2020 Girl State participation. Vorhies also updated on the planned collection of items for the Marshalltown Veterans Home, with a drop-off location at Fairfield First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Persons wishing a list of
> needs may contact Vorhies at 641-472-4449 or mvanddv@lisco.com.

Celebrate Recovery
Over two dozen people, including two newcomers, from Washington, Brighton, Fairfield, and Wayland, attended a Celebrate Recovery meeting Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Brighton Church of God. The evening included dinner; praise and worship music; optional small group sharing; and a testimonial from someone who experienced abandonment and betrayal, but found recovery as she began to seek and serve God.
The next weekly meeting, open to anyone with any hurt, habit, or hangup, will be Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Brighton Church of God beginning at 6 p.m., with a free meal.
