Ainsworth Sacha Club
Ten members of the Ainsworth Sacha Club met Monday, Sept. 23, at the Ainsworth Community Church.
President Rachel Carstensen opened the meeting with roll call: 'Name one thing you will do to help publicize the Craft Show.”
Brenda Bean issued and reviewed the new program booklets.
The Ainsworth Fire Department is building a new fire station. A decision was made to make a contribution to this project.
The club's annual Craft Show will be Friday, Nov. 2 at Highland Middle School. A discussion was held on expanding publicity. Brenda Bean has 23 vendors signed up.
The members divided into craft show committees to make further plans.
The next meeting will be Monday, Oct. 28 at the Ainsworth Community Church. The program will be cookie decorating for the craft show. Each member is to bring four dozen cookies to decorate.
The meeting adjourned, and Karen Megchelsen served refreshments.
TTT Chapter Iowa J
Members of Chapter Iowa J, Wayland, of the National T.T.T. Society met at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Wayland Community Room.
President Lori Messer called the meeting to order with Sword of Gold.
Recording Secretary Georgia Fort took roll and read the minutes of the July and August meetings. Those minutes were approved as read. It was noted that the R&D report had been received and will be done and turned in before Nov. 1. Report of chapter funds was given.
Convention Registration is due before Oct. 14. Lori Messer and Georgia Fort will attend National Convention Oct. 24-26 as Chapter J delegates. Tracy Hill also will be attending. Registration will be sent in immediately.
The chapter reviewed the proposed bylaw changes as printed in Tidings and discussed the same.
The next chapter meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Wayland Community Room.
Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women
Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, for lunch and a meeting at Riverside Family Restaurant III in Fairfield.
Roll call will be answered about agriculture in Portugal.
Diane Goudy will give a program on cyber security.
AAUW
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, the American Association of University Women and the Washington Public Library will host a chance to meet new Police Chief Jim Lester.
The meeting will meet in the Nicola Stoufer room at the Washington Public Library.
Lester will be giving an informational meeting about himself, his career, and his plans for the police department.
This event is free and open to all.
Henry County Heritage Trust
Henry County Heritage Trust held its monthly meeting Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Donald Young Library at the Henry County Museum in Mt. Pleasant. All 10 board members were able to attend: Waunita Gibbons, Terry McNair, David Van Allen, Ken Vandevoort, Mona Gates, David Gates, Pat White, Sheila Allender, Pat Richenberger and David McCoid.
Final preparations were made for the Wednesday, Oct. 23, visit of University of Iowa President Harreld and the U of I physics department. They will be touring the Van Allen House and Van Allen related displays in the museum. Reunion committees have arranged for tours: Class of 1959 on Sept. 28 and Class of 1956 on Oct. 12. A large, enthusiastic group from the Class of 1969 visited the museum on Sept. 7. Thursday afternoons continue to be workdays at the museum. Creating files with photos and histories of the businesses in and around Mt. Pleasant has been the current focus.
Joe Campbell shared his knowledge of Mt. Pleasant's Fire Department during a presentation on Sept. 14th. On Sept. 21, due to rainy weather, the Henry County Pioneer Cemetery Commission used the museum's Education Room to present their program about the history of Irishtown Cemetery.
The final program of the year will be held Saturday, Oct. 19. Rich Seberg, director of Midwest Old Thresher's North Village, will talk about the 'Past, Present and Future” of that special place.
Henry County Heritage Museum is open 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays May through October; any other times by appointment. The Van Allen House is open by appointment only. Admission is free. Donations are welcome. Contact 319-385-4983.
