Washington Pickle Ballers
The Washington Pickle Ballers held its inaugural club organiztional meeting Thursday, Aug. 1.
The agenda included approval of T-shirts, the motto, dues, leadership, participation, out-of-town trips and the status of the request to the city for more courts.
Prototype T-shirts were on display and the shirt catalog was reviewed. The group particularly like the comfort of the new shirt. It was announced that in the future, shirts would be available at the Pillars gift shop in the Washington County Hospital and Clinics.
Mottos were reviewed. The group's temporary motto of 'Relish Life” was discussed as a strong possibility. The topic was tabled until the next meeting.
The group is favorably considering a trip to Smash Park in West Des Moines. Dates and transportation were favorably discussed. Smash Park in an entertainment center with indoor and outdoor pickleball courts offering sandwiches and refreshments.
Regarding participation, new players continue to show up. The group is now using two temporary courts at the auxiliary gym at the new high school and another court at the Community Y. Morning and evening games are now being considered as an offering to accommodate the growing demand.
Dues and leadership were overlooked because of a lack of time to give the matter proper attention.
It was reported that the Washington Park Board had tabled the group's request and recommendation for outdoor courts at its July meeting. The group will request an audience with the Park Board at its next meeting.
The next Pickle Ballers club meeting will be at a date, time and place yet to be determined.

Washington County 4-H
The Washington County Extension office will hold a 'Fall Prep” leader's meeting for all 4-H and Clover Kid club leaders on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension office.
The evening will include fair review, premium checks, record book evaluation procedures, fall Butter Braid sale information, new year enrollment information and more.

Packwood Lions
The Packwood Lions Club willhave a pork chop supper from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Packwood Community Room.
A free will offering will collected for the meal. The proceeds will benefit the REACH program.
Keosauqua Lions
The Keosauqua Lions Club will be serving an all-you-can-eat from 7-10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17-18, in Keosauqua City Park.
The club's bicycle raffle winner will be announced the morning of Aug. 18 during the breakfast.
The breakfast is part of the Bike Van Buren XXXIII bicycle ride through the historic Villages of Van Buren.
