Feb. 22, 2024 3:04 pm
Welsh Heritage Month is in March and centers around celebrating the life of St. David, the patron saint of Wales.
Local celebration plans include the 12th annual Welsh parade in downtown Columbus Junction on March 2, 2024. It will begin at 1 p.m. under the Viaduct and end at the American Legion Hall. Check out details at the Facebook page "Dragon, Leek and Daffodils of SE Iowa."
The Iowa Welsh Society will meet at the Pella Golf & Country Club on Saturday, March 16 beginning with a potluck dinner at 12:30 p.m. Afternoon activities will include special speaker, Sarah Evans Mayo from Eureka, Illinois, whose wide range of talents will include leading the singing of the Welsh National Anthem as well as other familiar Welsh songs. She will share her experiences in Wales as she and her family lived in Wales while Sarah completed her master’s in Welsh Musicology.
Check out the web page iowawelshsociety.org for details. Both events warmly invite participation from those of Welsh descent as well as those who wish they were of Welsh descent.
