Ottumwa — Community 1st Credit Union proudly announces that its President and CEO, Greg Hanshaw, has been recognized with the prestigious Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) Community Impact Award. The award was presented during ICUF’s annual Benefit Night at the 2025 Iowa Credit Union Convention, which also marked the Foundation’s 30th anniversary.
The ICUF Community Impact Award, established in 2015, recognizes individuals, credit unions, and community partners who have demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility through volunteerism, advocacy, or philanthropy in service to community-based charitable causes.
Hanshaw, who has served as CEO of C1st for 14 years, was honored for his deep commitment to improving the financial well-being of members and strengthening communities across Iowa. Throughout his career, he has championed programs and initiatives that embody the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.”
In his remarks upon receiving the award, Hanshaw reflected on his journey in the credit union industry and the impact of serving others:
“In 14 years, I haven’t had a single day where I didn’t look forward to getting up and coming to work. There’s nothing more impactful than taking care of our members,” said Hanshaw. “I’m grateful for the support of my wife, my family, and my incredible team at C1st who share in this mission.”
The award presentation was part of ICUF’s Benefit Night, which brought together more than 280 credit union leaders and raised a record-breaking $118,000 to support programs that remove barriers to financial well-being for Iowans.
“Greg embodies the true spirit of credit unions. Putting people first and working tirelessly to create opportunities that strengthen communities,” said Ena Babic Barnes, Executive Director of ICUF. “His leadership and dedication inspire others across the credit union movement.”
