The Washington Concert Association is proud to announce a concert by lyric soprano Heather Youngquist, accompanied by pianist Shari Rhoads, at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the United Methodist Church in Washington.
Heather, raised in Washington, now resides in Chicago. She attended the University of Iowa for her undergraduate degree in Music Performance and Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music for her Master of Music degree with a minor in Opera Studies. The program, ?A Woman?s Life and Love,? features art song, opera, and musical theater, including composers such as Bernstein, Britten, Copland, Schumann, and Sondheim. This is an eclectic mix of musical styles, with all the pieces centered around the theme of women or written from the perspective of women. All of the music is in English, with the exception of one set in German by Robert Schumann called Frauenliebe und -leben (A Woman's Love and Life), which was the inspiration for this whole program. Translation will be provided. There will be serious moments in this recital, but also many moments of levity and celebration, just as in everyday life.
Shari Rhoads is a pianist and has conducted in Europe and the United States. She has recently added musical theater to her repertoire and directed 12 musicals in the last 18 months. Shari is also artistic director and conductor of ConcertIA, a new musical venture championing Midwest musicians. Shari and her husband live in Coralville.
This is part of the Washington Concert Association?s 2014-15 Season. Single tickets are available at the door. Students high school age and under are free. For more information, contact 319-863-3132.
