Conservation board hosts ?Explorations in Ice?

Take a break from the heat this summer and travel back to a cooler time in Iowa.

Roughly 10,000 years ago, the last Ice Age ended with the melting of the massive ice sheets covering Iowa and much of North America.

Learn about these continental glaciers during the Washington County Conservation Board?s program ?Iowa Ice Ages? on Saturday, June 2. The program will begin at 1 p.m. at the Conservation Education Center at Marr Park.

During this family friendly program, we take a close look at glaciers, the times when they ruled over the Northern Hemisphere, the effects they had on the land and life then, and even how the remnants of those past Ice Ages affect us and the land today.

We?ll look at how Iowa specifically has been altered by glaciers (including areas missed by the ice sheets) as well as the consequences on the rest of the world (for example, what role did the Ice Ages play in developing the diversity of the rainforests?).

The Conservation Education Center is located at the south end of Marr Park, 1 mile west of Ainsworth and 6 miles east of Washington on Highway 92.
