Contestants needed for rib cook-off event

Eldon ? Gothic Area Tourism of Eldon is seeking contestants for its third annual Barbecue Rib Cook-Off Aug. 8 at the Rock Island Park in Eldon.

The entry fee for the contest is 10 pounds of pork spare ribs; no baby back ribs and other rib types will be allowed. The ribs are to be done by 4:15 p.m. for judging, and they will be served for the annual Supper In The Park at 5 p.m. that evening. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Playground Park.

A traveling trophy will be awarded, as well as $100 to first place, $75 to second place and $50 to third-place winners. Contestants will be judged on the following criteria: taste, presentation/appearance and cooking set up-cleanliness.

A pie auction also will take place that evening to benefit the Doc Sawyer Memorial Park and American Legion.
