Counting the days

I know that this article will anger some people. It will delight some people. And of course, there are always the ones who could care less! There are 64 days until we celebrate Christmas, the day that we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. There are 36 days until we all sit down around a table at Thanksgiving and gorge ourselves with turkey, ham or maybe some other delicious meat and all the accessories. Of course, let?s not forget the dessert; pie is the favorite at the Carr house. OK, enough about our family and their celebrating and eating habits.
Let?s talk about you and your family for a couple of minutes. Many of you will make plans to get together and celebrate. Many families get together on a regular basis to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. Unfortunately, some families never get together to celebrate anything. Some families can?t get together very often because of the long distances between their homes. Some families don?t get together because they just flat-out don?t get along. Some families' work schedules affect the number of times they see each other. There always seems to be a good reason why we just can?t get everyone of the same page.
Now let me bring this little rant of mine around to the church. The one thing that really confuses me is the continuing lack of interest that fellow believers (the family of God) have in regard to getting together once a week to celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Now, I know that there are a lot of people in our wonderful community of Washington, Iowa, that attend a local church on a rather regular basis. (Well, at least on a fairly regular basis, when we don?t have anything else planned.) I am not talking about you guys.
I am trying to get the attention of people who claim to know God, who claim to have a relationship with Jesus, who have been members of a local church here in Washington for years, but never seem to have time to go worship with their fellow church members. You know who you are !LOL! There just isn?t enough time in your week to go and worship in a local church? Maybe it?s because you just don?t see eye to eye with those people anymore. Maybe you ought to fix that?
Well, this is the week that I challenge you to count the days until you can go and worship with your family. There are numerous churches here in the city of Washington where you can go and hear the Word of God preached from the pulpit. The wonderful Good News of Jesus, His death on the cross which paid the penalty for your sins.
P.S. I told you I was going to make some people mad! I know that some are delighted!! Of course, I know that there are some who will not care one way or the other!!
P.S. I?m sure that your pastor will be excited to see you again. LOL!
