County courthouse sidewalk to be replaced

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 3, to replace the sidewalk along the west side of the courthouse. This work is being performed by DeLong Construction Inc. of Washington, Iowa. This work is being done to improve accessibility from North B Avenue to the west entrance and will install some tile to improve drainage around the foundation and from the roof of the courthouse. Construction is expected to take about one month, depending on the weather.

During construction the contractor is required to keep the west entrance to the courthouse open for use by the public, except for three days. The access point towards this entrance may change during construction, so the public is asked to use caution when walking through the construction zone. Because of the construction it may be difficult for those who need to use the elevator to access the courthouse to get to the west entrance. If you need handicapped access, you are asked to contact the Washington County Auditor?s Office in advance so they and the contractor can assist you in accessing the courthouse. At some point during construction, the contractor will be allowed to close the west entrance to public access for up to three business days. We will work with the contractor to give the public as much advance notice as to when this will be. Because of how the speed of work may proceed we ask the public to be patient and contact the Auditor?s Office in advance if you need to use the west entrance.
