County resident charged with domestic assault
An investigation by county sheriff's deputies Sept. 23 into a disturbance led to an arrest and charges filed against one of the participants.
Deputies were summoned to the 2500 grid of Dakota Avenue and an investigation determined a domestic assault had taken place.
Shawna Smothers, 41, Mt. Pleasant, was arrested and charged with domestic assault causing bodily injury, first offense, a serious misdemeanor.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
