Graduates and friends of Crawfordsville High School met at the United Church of Crawfordsville Fellowship Hall on Saturday afternoon June 12 for the 96th reunion of the alumni gathering with 52 present. A pleasant time of reminiscing and visiting was enjoyed since the group was unable to meet in 2020 due to COVID. Refreshments of cookies, lemonade and coffee were provided by the United Church Women.
Larry Fletcher served as master of ceremonies, and Phyllis Eisele shared information about the first alumni reunion 96 years ago in 1925 and told about some of their decorations and the menu. She also called attention to an interesting table display of Crawfordsville High memorabilia that she had arranged, which included alumni pictures, some newspaper clippings from the past banquets and displays of Crawfordsville annuals.
Several members of the Chalupa and Whiting families were present. Eight states were represented by those present: California, Texas, Colorado, Indiana, Arizona, Arkansas, Utah and Iowa.
Deaths noted this past year were: John Harold Jones, Class of 1938; Margaret Williams Lloyd, Class of 1943; Maxine Fulton Martin, Class of 1948; Russell Monson, Class of 1951; Jerry Banks, Class of 1953 and Larry Milliman, Class of 1958.
Martha Chalupa served as pianist for the singing of school songs and others.
The group plans to meet again next year on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
The evening concluded with "God Bless America."
The committee that planned the event was Phyllis Eisele, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Gerry Farrier and Ruth Erwin.
