By Billie Jo Rose
Dec. 22, 2022 12:33 pm
The Crawfordsville Lions Club held their annual Christmas drawing, Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Crawfordsville Fire Station. A large crowd enjoyed the event which started with a 4-H Bake Sale at noon, Santa arriving at 12:30 and the drawing at 1 p.m.
There were a few over 203 gifts given out from area donors to 105 card holders. Community and area businesses and residents generously gave of their services, meat bundles and cash. The local Lions Club gave the Grand Prize of $100. Mrs. Larry Love was the recipient.
Several have asked when this much looked forward to event originated. I am told the first drawing took place in 1954 at the old Fire Station (the brick building) east of the Peoples Savings Bank. They gave away $119 worth of gifts. Quite a contrast from the present day when over $3000 worth of gifts are given. They later moved to the Crawfordsville Legion Hall and from there to the present location.
