Crawfordsville Lions Club holds Installation Banquet

The Crawfordsville Lions Club held their Installation Banquet on Monday evening, September 11, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. the United Church of Crawfordsville. In attendance were Scott and Jeanne Davis, Darrell and Mary Egli, Randy Finke, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Jennie Greene, Joel and Luetta Greene, David and Lisa Jewell, Larry and Nancy Love, Mike and Shirley Massey and Shirley's mother, Ramona Von Sprecken, Gene and Pat Miller, Lance Miller , Billie Jo Rose and Mindy Wilson. Special Guests were 9SE District Governor Mike Renken and wife, Linda.
Lion President Randy Finke called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Darrell Egli offered prayer.
Following the delicious meal prepared by Alice Hochstetler and served by her and Kylee Steele, the meeting reconvened.
` Lion Randy first thanked Alice and Kylee for the meal and service and then brought up one item of business. This pertained to the Lions Fall Pancake Breakfast, normally held in September. Due to unforeseen circumstances, there will not be a Fall Pancake Breakfast this year. He then presented the Si Finke Lion of the Year Award to Lion Joel Greene.
Club Administrator Nancy Love presented chevron Membership Awards for service to the Lions to Mike Massey for 50 Years and Larry Fletcher for 60 Years. She had previously presented the late Arvid Anderson his chevron for 70 years of service. Arvid was the last Charter Member of the Crawfordsville Lions Club.
She then introduced guest, 9SE District Governor Renken. He spoke of the need for leadership in Lionism and how it takes time and effort. Since no one stepped forward for leadership roles of Vice District Governors or District Governors,there was a special meeting of all 9SE Governors in July to fill the vacancy and they voted to recommend his reappointment to this office.
District Governor Renken presented perfect attendance awards: Mike Massey and Randy Finke: 44 Years; Scott Davis: 33 Year; Gene Miller: 21 Years and Billie Jo Rose: 14 Years.
The next order of business was the Installation of the 2023-24 officers: They are: President: Mindy Wilson; 1st Vice President: Scott Davis; 3rd Vice President: Billie Jo Rose; Secretary: Billie Jo Rose; Treasurer: Randy Finke; Tail Twister: Randy Finke; Lion Tamer: Mike Massey; 1 Year Director: Larry Love; 2 Year Director: Joel Greene and Club Administrator: Nancy Love.
Following installation the gavel and President's pin was passed from Past President Finke to incoming President Wilson. She then announced that the club would hold a regular meeting on Monday, September 25 at the Crawfordsville Community Room at 7 p.m.
A monetary gift was presented in the District Governor's name to L.C.I.F.
There being no further business to come before the club, the meeting adjourned.
UNITED CHURCH WOMEN
The regular meeting of the United Church Women was held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 2 p.m.in the Church Fellowship Hall with eight ladies present.
Pat Miller presented the Meditation with an article from the Book, "Women of Faith" about September 11.
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison.
The minutes of the July 11, 2023 meeting were approved as read by Secretary Billie Jo Rose.
Treasurer Pat Miller gave her report and it will be filed for audit. Everyone was reminded to bring their Blessing Boxes to the November meeting.
Correspondence:
Donations were reported from those using the hall and there was an update on one of the mission projects.
Committee Reports:
Local Activities: Check on supplies for the upcoming Harvest Supper/ Auction of November 4.
Dorcas :
A baby quilt had been given and another ready to be given to someone with a recent injury.
Cards, Flowers and Gifts:
The usual had been sent and cards were passed to sign for two hospitalized at this time.
Study & Devotions/ Mission Outreach:
Margaret gave a report on what the Mission Committee in the church and their duties.
Old Business:
The Rummage Sale was reported on and there was talk of the number of days and possibly shortened hours next spring.
New Business:
The slate of Officers for 2024 was presented: President: Debbie Lowe; Vice President: Cathy Williams; Secretary: Billie Jo Rose; Treasurer: Pat Miller. Study and Devotions: Margaret and Pauline; Local Activities: Carol and Marlene; Dorcas: Donna; Cards, Flowers and Gifts: Billie Jo and Cathy and Nominating Committee: 1 Year: Margaret, 2 Year: Marlene and 3 Year: Linda.
It was mentioned to be thinking about the budget guidelines to be discussed at the next meeting.
Upcoming Events:
Next Meeting: November 14, 2023 at 2 p.m. Meditation: Margaret; Hostess: Rachel. The treasury will be assessed and the Blessing Boxes will be turned in and it will be determined where to send the money.
Dorcas: September 25, October 9 and 23 and November 6.
Work Committees: September: Margaret; October: Pauline and November: Cathy or Deb.
Following a motion to adjourn the Closing Creed was read together.
Debbie thanked Marlene for hostessing and her closing thoughts were from Proverbs 17:17: "Friendship improves happiness and abates misery, by doubling our joy, and dividing our grief." A friend loves at all times and a brother is born from adversity.
