The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, Sept. 13 in the United Church of Crawfordsville Fellowship Hall for their Annual Installation Banquet. Present were Arvid and Joan Anderson, Larry and Nancy Love, Billie Jo Rose, Darrell and Mary Egli, Lance Miller, Gene and Pat Miller, Adam Mitchell and financ'ee, Lara, Joel and Luetta Greene, Scott and Jeanne Davis, Gene and Betty Lintz, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Randy and Linda Finke, Mike and Shirley Massey and David and Lisa Jewell.
The meeting was called to order by Lion President Mike Massey with the introduction of District Governor Nancy Love, the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation given by Lion Larry Fletcher. A delicious meal was served by the United Church Women and their helpers.
Following the meal, District Governor Love addressed the club and challenged them to live the Lions Motto "We Serve." She quoted International President Douglas Alexander when she said, "Service to others is the rent we pay for the space we occupy here on earth." And that takes teamwork because teamwork makes the dream work. Together Everyone Accomplishes More. We are Lions. Loving Individuals Offering Needed Services, for where there's a need, there's a Lion!
Installation of officers was the next order of business. New officers for the 2021-2022 Lions year are: Gene Miller, President; Randy Finke, 1st Vice President; Jennie Greene, 2nd Vice-President; Steve Williams, 3rd Vice President; Nancy Love, Secretary; Randy Finke, Treasurer; Larry Fletcher, Tail Twister, Mike Massey, Lion Tamer; One Year Directors, Joel Greene and Lance Miller and Two Year Directors, Billie Jo Rose and Luetta Greene.
Lions with perfect attendance were also recognized: Lance Miller, 4 Years; Billie Jo Rose, 12 Years; Gene Miller, 19 Years; Scott Davis, 31 Years and Randy Finke and Mike Massey, 42 Years.
DG Nancy presented each member of the club with her custom-designed District Governor pin. It is in the form of a heart with her theme, "The Power of Love" in the center along with her name, the Lions and Leo logos and a pair of praying hands. Her year in office, club location, district and year, are along the outside of the heart.
Following the installation ceremony, the gavel was passed from Past President Mike Massey to incoming President Gene Miller.
The meeting reconvened with thanking UCW President Debbie Lowe and her helpers for the delicious meal. A note was made of the upcoming Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, September 25 from 6:30-9:30 a.m. at the Crawfordsville Fire Station. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any Lions member or at the door for a free-will donation, with the option to Dine In or Carry Out. Set-up will be Friday evening, September 24 at 6 p.m. This will count as the second meeting of the month.
President Gene also mentioned that our club will be hosting the District Convention in April in Washington, as it is a tradition for the District Governor's club to do so. More will be discussed on this in October.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
Fall Clean-up for Crawfordsville is Monday, Oct. 18. Items must be out by 7 a.m. More information will be published later.
Another reminder, anyone interested in purchasing a brick with their name on it or a company name on the Crawfordsville town sign can call Billie Jo Rose at 319-330-9955 for more information.
