Twelve members of the Crawfordsville Lions Club met for their regular meeting on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room.
President Scott Davis called the meeting to order, leading the Pledge of Allegiance and also offered prayer.
Secretary Billie Jo Rose read the minutes of the January 13, 2025 meeting which were approved as read. Treasurer Randy Finke gave the Treasurer's report.
Old Business: Tickets still need to be made up for the upcoming Pancake Supper on February 22. Lion Jennie has made posters for the event and they have been distributed around the area. Area 4-H er's are still needed to help with the event.
New Business: It was mentioned that the Club's donation to Camp Courageous is due next month. Also, Ainsworth will be having a Blood Drive on February 3.
The meeting adjourned and Lion Jennie Greene showed slides and gave a very interesting account of a Mission Trip she took to Africa to visit an orphanage in July of 2024. The trip was scheduled for March of 2020, but due to COVID was cancelled. This group is based out of Iowa and called Go Serve Global. These are short term mission trip volunteers that serve alongside local ministries to help care for orphans at Hope Center in Liberia and help support community development.
All the roads were paved and done by the Chinese. All the buildings are made out of tile. Everything was very clean. The orphanage safety homes were made out of grain bins. The children ran to meet them and wanted attention. Those who went took suitcases full of clothing, crafts, coloring books, crayons, flash cards and lesson books, etc. and left them with the kids. Those on the mission trip cleaned areas of brush and planted sweet potato vines and pineapples.
There was an abundance of fruit, including bananas and avocados.
The trip was a very long flight, around 15 hrs. going out and 17 1/2 hours coming home. They flew out of Chicago to Ethiopia and Ghana and backtracked to Liberia.
When they left they were building a Birthing Center, at the orphanage. New medical mission opportunities will be available in 2025.
The meeting concluded with Tail Twister Finke entertaining the group with trivia about Fast Food.
BAGS TOURNAMENT

Gene and Lindsey Miller took the win and donated the prize money back to the club.
