Sixteen members were present for the first meeting of the new year of the Crawfordsville Lions Club on Monday, Jan. 8 at the Crawfordsville Community Room.
President Mindy Wilson opened the meeting leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Larry Fletcher gave the invocation.
Following the dinner prepared and served by Alice Hochstetler the meeting reconvened. Secretary Billie Jo Rose read the minutes of the Nov. 27 meeting and they were approved as read. A report of the Dec. 4, 2023 Blood Drive was also given, as well as the dinner meeting held Dec. 11 at Miller Homestead Cooking near Kalona. Also, Secretary Rose shared an account of the Christmas Drawing held Dec. 16, 2023. Treasurer Randy Finke gave his report.
Old Business: It was reported hogs have been donated for the Feb. 17 Pancake Supper and will need to be delivered Tuesday, Feb. 6 or early Wednesday, Feb. 7. As in the past, Bacon, Pork Chops and Sausage will be offered for sale.
The Christmas Drawing was discussed briefly and recipients were reminded to thank donors for their gifts.
It was reported the town Christmas lights were taken down on Jan. 2 and the purchase of some L.E.D. lights for replacement were approved. Helping take down the lights were Lions Scott Davis, Randy Finke, Joel Greene, Gene and Lance Miller, Larry Swailes and Steve Williams.
New Business: A letter was received thanking the Club for their donation to the Iowa Lions Foundation. Lions Swailes mentioned that Iowa Lions Foundation had a float in the Rose Bowl Parade and asked how many saw it.
As there was no further business to come before the club, the meeting adjourned.
Tail Twister Finke entertained with trivia concerning dates when various events occurred.
