Nine members of the Wednesday Study Club and one guest met a Circa 59 at Halcyon House in Washington for a Dutch treat lunch on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.
Following the meal a brief business meeting was held beginning with the Club Collect.
The flag was saluted in honor of all Veterans. The minutes and the treasurer's report of the previous meeting were read and approved. Book briefs were shared and products for Lending Hands were collected.
The next meeting will be held at the United Church of Crawfordsville at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Cathy Williams will lead a group share 'Spending a Day with Christmas Memories.” Hostesses will be Janice Twinam and Marilyn Rees.
After adjournment of the meeting, club members reconvened at the Washington County Military Museum, Inc. to 'Spend a Day Remembering Veterans.” The group was welcomed by three gentleman who gave an overview of the museum and some history of some of the collections and area veterans, as well. The museum is dedicated to displaying historical artifacts of military significance. Everyone enjoyed looking at the displays at their own pace.
Clarissa Malmberg was the hostess and program leader for the day.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, November 25, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 15 members present.
Lion President Larry Swailes opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Secretary Nancy Love gave the invocation.
The minutes of the November 11, 2019 meeting were approved as read. Lion treasurer Randy Finke gave his report.
Old Business: The town Christmas lights will be put up the Friday after Thanksgiving. Lion Gene Lintz will check the lights. It was noted that we will need a dozen more Santa bags at the Christmas drawing. For that day on Saturday, December 21, the 4-H Club will have a bake sale beginning at 12 p.m.; Santa will arrive at 12:30 and the drawing will begin at 1 p.m. A list was compiled of people who live outside the Crawfordsville Postal area to whom cards will be sent.
New Business: It was moved, seconded and approved to endorse Lion Secretary Nancy Love, who is currently 2nd. Vice District Governor for 9 SE, for the position of 1st Vice District Governor for the year 2020-2021. It was moved, seconded and approved to have the Christmas Party on Friday, December 6 at the Thirsty Camel. Happy Hour will be at 7 with the meal at 7:30. The Pancake Supper will be Saturday, February 15, 2020. Ticket prices will be $9 at the door; $8 in advance, children 12 and under $5 and preschool free.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Delicious refreshments were served by Lions Larry and Nancy Love.
In Church News;
There are still mittens on the Mitten Tree that has a child's number on it for gifts. There is a suggestion of their interests for toys, etc. and sizes for clothing. People are being asked to purchase toys and clothes. The gifts purchased for the Sharing Christmas child should be at the church no later than Tuesday, December 17. The child's number should be on the package.
Organizing the packages and the other items will be done on Wednesday, December 18. The families will be picking up these items along with the food pantry items on December 19 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Many will be needed to help greet the families and help carry items to their vehicles.
