Arica Marsh, Emma and Jose of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Edwin Ortega of Washington returned to their homes Monday following a 10-day visit with their great-grandmother, Helen Lease in Crawfordsville, and their mother and grandmother, Christine Stauffer of Mt. Pleasant. On Sunday afternoon the entire family, including the Doug Marsh family from St. Robert, Mo., visited in the Lease home.
The Stoufer room at the Washington Library was the meeting place for the 12 members who attended the 2 p.m. meeting of Wednesday Study Club, June 18. Hostesses were Cathy Williams and Debbie Lowe.
President Ruth Erwin opened the meeting with the flag salute, reading of the club collect and book briefs.
Program leader Marie Dare then introduced guest presenter Carolyn Bollman, whose topic was "Exploring Underground Railroad Quilting." She displayed and shared stories of some of the many beautiful quilts she has made ? quilts of many different patterns and fabrics. She also had individual blocks that, when made into full-sized quilts and displayed on a clothesline or a bush, could have been used to guide runaway slaves on their quest for freedom in Canada. Her quilting skills were very evident to those club members who were in attendance.
After a short business meeting, it was noted that this meeting was the last for the current club year, and that new officers would be in charge of planning the 2014-15 year that begins in September.
Refreshments were served by the hostesses.
