The Wyman Community Club met Monday, Nov. 7, for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Ainsworth Four Corners. The Wyman Community Club met Monday, Nov. 7, for lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Ainsworth Four Corners. In attendance were John Wittrig and Laura Wittrig of Winfield, Frieda Finke, Ruth Erwin, Billie Jo Rose and Margaret Patterson of Crawfordsville, Wilma Vosburg from Grinnell and Jane Kaczinski of Washington.
The United Church Women met at the United Church of Crawfordsville at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, with 11 members present.
Clarissa Malmberg gave the meditation, ?You Really Can Do It With God.?
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison. Minutes of the Oct. 11 meeting and the called meeting of Oct. 30 were approved as read.
The treasurer?s report was given and will be filed for audit.
Local Activities reported that the 2017 Work Committes are almost complete.
Wilma reported that Dorcas has been very busy with some quilts given locally, some taken to a mission in Iowa City and dresses to Sierra Leone. Holiday Boxes were to be filled at 9:30 a.m., Nov.17, to be taken to friends of the church.
The usual cards had been sent.
Clarissa shared with the group the message for Mission Outreach focusing on Bolivia. The regular offering and the Least Coin Offering were received and the Prayer for the Fellowship of the Least Coin was read in unison.
Helen Lease reported 206 kits were delivered to the Ingathering.
In New Business: The group?s next meeting will be lunch at 11:30 a.m., Dec. 13 at the Applewood Bistro. Members can meet to pool rides at the church at 11 a.m.
The Treasury was assessed, with several changes for giving this year only and decisions will be made later concerning next year.
Ainsworth UCC will be hosting the March 2017 World Day of Prayer and asked if the UCW would consider a change to Thursday, March 2, rather than Friday, March 3. This was agreed upon.
It was also brought to the attention of the ladies that the community Thanksgiving Dinner at Wayland is needing the church to furnish stuffing. It was agreed upon to pay for the ingredients.
Cathy Williams and Pauline Richardson will be hostesses for the Dec. 13 dinner meeting at the Bistro. Blessing Boxes will be turned in.
Dorcas will meet Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
Work Committees: November: Pat Miller and Pauline Richardson and December: Rachel Koehler and Carol Steele.
Following a motion to adjourn the Closing Creed was read together.
President Deb thanked Clarissa for being hostess.
Debbie closed with Psalm 100: 4-5.
An Arts and Craft Show and Flea Market will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room at City Hall. Susie Butler, Pat Smalling and others will be featuring items. Come do your Christmas shopping!
The American Legion Post No. 593 held their annual Veteran?s Day dinner on Sunday, Nov.13, at the Crawfordsville Legion Hall with nearly 40 in attendance. A delicious meal consisting of turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, rolls and drinks was furnished by Jan Whiting. Others brought vegetables, salads and desserts.
Commander Jeff Johnston was in charge and welcomed everyone. David Cerka offered prayer.
Gene Miller introduced Roman Kiefer who had been chosen by the Legion to attend Boys State this past summer. He gave an interesting account of his experiences and thanked the Post for sending him.
The day concluded with the Legionnaires having a short business meeting.
