The Crawfordsville Lions Club met at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at the United Church of Crawfordsville for the Annual Installation Banquet. The Crawfordsville Lions Club met at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at the United Church of Crawfordsville for the Annual Installation Banquet. Present were 23 Lions members and guests: Arvid and Joan Anderson, Scott and Jeanne Davis, Darrell Egli, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Joel and Luetta Greene, Gene and Betty Lintz, Larry and Nancy Love, Mike Massey, Gene and Pat Miller, Lance Miller, Mindy Rochwick, Billie Jo Rose, Loree Stogdell, Larry Swailes and Steve Williams. Two guests were present: District Governor Debbie Doty and her Partner-in-Service, Leslie Nuehring.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance and the Prayer of Invocation led by President Larry Fletcher a delicious meal was served by the United Church Women of the United Church of Crawfordsville.
After dinner, the meeting reconvened with remarks by District Governor Doty. She spoke of the Lions International President's "Strengthen-the-Pride" challenge for all Lions as a way of sharing the vision as they work together serving communities and the world.
Milestone Membership Chevrons were presented to several Lions members for their years of service in the club: Luetta Greene, 20 years; Scott Davis, 25 years; Joel Greene, 35 years; Ed Massey, 35 years; Larry Love, 40 years; and Darrell Egli, 45 years.
Lions with perfect attendance were also recognized: Billie Jo Rose, five years; Gene Miller, 12 years; Scott Davis, 24 years; Randy Finke, 35 years; and Mike Massey, 35 years.
Officers were then installed by Doty: Mindy Rochwick, president; Loree Stogdill, first vice president; Billie Jo Rose, second vice president; Lance Miller, third vice president; secretary, Nancy Love; treasurer, Randy Finke; Tail Twister, Larry Fletcher; Lion Tamer, Mike Massey; one-year directors, Rick Fulton and Larry Swailes; and two-year directors, Craig Koehler and Gene Lintz.
After a review of the upcoming pancake breakfast, which will be held at the Crawfordsville Ball Park on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 10 a.m., the president adjourned the meeting.
The United Church Women met at the United Church of Crawfordsville Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. with 11 ladies present.
Clarissa Malmberg gave the meditation "Gleaning the Fields" by June Masters Bacher, based on Ezra 7:1-10.
In the absence of the president, Debbie Lowe, Malmberg presided and called the meeting to order. Members then read the Opening Creed together.
Billie Jo Rose read the minutes from the July 8, 2014, meeting.
Treasurer Pat Miller gave the treasurer's report. It was noted the ladies had a very successful rummage sale. The report was approved and will be filed for audit.
Correspondence:
Thank-you notes were read from the Presbyterian moderator and Mildred Houseal for the quilt she had received. Invitations were read regarding the S.E. District Women's meeting on Sept. 13 in Davenport and the United Methodist annual meeting in Indianola on Oct. 4.
Committee Reports:
Local Activities: The ladies had served the Lions Dinner on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. The upcoming Harvest Sale was discussed.
Dorcas: Wilma McAllister reported 89 school bags were finished on Monday. Also they had received the gift of a sewing machine and also, some fabric, for which they were most appreciative.
Cards, Flowers, and Gifts: Billie Jo Rose reported on several cards being sent.
The Fellowship of the Least Coin and Pledge Offering was received.
The World Thank Offering was received and Ruth Erwin gave a reading based on Hebrews 10:9-21 that told how the offering goes to help people around the world with various needs.
Pauline Richardson passed a sign-up sheet for various committees for the new year.
Helen Lease reported 88 In-Gathering kits have been completed to date.
The Nominating Committee presented the following slate of officers for 2015: president, Debbie Lowe; vice president, Clarissa Malmberg; secretary, Billie Jo Rose; and treasurer, Pat Miller. Coordinating Committees are: Study and Devotions-Mission Outreach: Ruth Erwin, Pauline Richardson and Clarissa Malmberg; Local Activities: Carolyn Steele, Donna Fletcher and Ann Lewis; Dorcas: Wilma McAllister; Nominating Committee members Cathy Williams, Clarissa Malmberg and Donna Fletcher; and Cards, Flowers and Gifts: Billie Jo Rose and Cathy Williams. A unanimous ballot was cast for these officers.
Old Business: Kitchen plans are still in the process of being discussed and will be reported on at the next meeting. Pat Miller brought to attention the Blessing Boxes and asked everyone to be thinking of of ways to use the money.
Clarissa announced many upcoming dates.
The next regular meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. with meditation by Dorothy Sands, and hostess, Julia Bletscher. Dorcas meets Monday, Sept. 22, and Oct. 13 and 27. The Harvest Supper is Oct. 25 and the committee is Rachel Koehler, Pauline Richardson, Pat Miller and Donna Fletcher. The Work Committee for September is Debbie Lowe and Pauline Richardson, and for October, Carol Steele and Billie Jo Rose.
Clarissa thanked Pat Miller for being hostess.
The meeting adjourned with everyone reading the Closing Creed and Clarissa reading Scripture, Deuteronomy 6: 4-9.
