The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday evening, Oct. 14, 2019, at 6:30 p.m., at the Crawfordsville Community Room. Thirteen members and three guests, Zone Chair 7 Jim Strasser and his wife, Judy from the Winfield Lions Club and District Gov. Debbie Doty were present.
Lion President Larry Swailes called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Gene Miller led the club in prayer.
After a delicious dinner prepared and served by Alice Hochstetler, the meeting reconvened. Guest speaker District Gov. Debbie Doty shared her personal journey with Type 2 diabetes. She encouraged club members to pay attention to the warning signs and to be screened. She passed out a pamphlet which listed warning signs. It was decided to have a County Health Nurse on hand at the December Blood Drive to do blood glucose screenings.
The minutes of the Sept. 9, 2019, meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported the receipts from the pancake breakfast were in, but noted he hadn't received a bill from the Winfield paper for advertising. It was noted that there were approximately 80 people in attendance. A thank-you note from Clara Schmitz was read as she was the recipient of the club's scholarship.
New Business: It was moved, seconded and approved to purchase one baseball for the BEEP Baseball World Series which will take place in late July 2020 in Ames. Lions were also encouraged to volunteer for the event which is for blind and visually impaired individuals from all over the country. Lion Billie Jo was recognized and thanked for the excellent publicity for the club that went into local newspapers, including the Wayland Reporter.
As the Tail Twister was absent, there was no trivia. The meeting adjourned.
