On April 2, 2020, WACO Elementary School held a Reverse Parade-aka Edarap-for students and their families. Teachers and support staff spread out and lined up on both sides of Main Street to wave and cheer as parents drove by and students waved back from the safety of inside their vehicles.
The elementary staff were decked out in their WACO best including cheer uniforms, flags, signs, Wilson the Warrior, a giant minion and everyone wearing blue and white. There was even a firetruck with flashing lights and an antique tractor bringing up the end of the parade.
WACO staff wanted to show students how much they missed them and were thinking of them during this unprecedented time of keeping a safe distance away. Approximately 50 vehicles came to town to take part in this reverse parade.
Hearts are being posted in Crawfordsville, (especially note the Peoples Savings Bank window) to show hope in this time of the pandemic. Also people are encouraged to put Teddy Bears in their windows to show they care for the kids to see as the walk around town.
On Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 the WACO High School and Elementary School will be handing out two breakfasts and two lunches to anyone 18 and under. There are no papers to fill out or guidelines.
I am reminded by Jenny Kaufman of the WACO Community Food Pantry guidelines. The pantry for the area is held at the United Church of Crawfordsville the first and third Thursday of each month. In April it was held April 2, 16.the 30th, since since there are five Thursdays in the month. Food may be picked up between 3:30-6:30.
The following instructions are for food bank pickup: 1. Please line up on the west side of the church. Food boxes will be on shelves as you drive under the carport. 2. As a safety measure, please load your box into your vehicle. Only one person loading is allowed outside your vehicle. If assistance is needed honk when it is your turn and someone will come to help. 3. All food boxes are the SAME. Only touch the box you are taking. Please follow instructions!! These precautions are very important during this pandemic and and your health is of extreme important to those preparing the food.
