The United Church Women met for a Christmas luncheon on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Circle 59 at Halcyon House in Washington with nine ladies in attendance. Pauline Richardson gave the meditation, 'Living for Christ, the Rest of the Year,” citing Luke 1:46-55.
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read in unison. Secretary Billie Jo Rose gave the secretary's report and it was approved as read. The treasurer's report was given by treasurer Pat Miller and it will be filed for audit.
CORRESPONDENCE: Thank you notes were read from many organizations that had received contributions from the ladies.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Local Activities: It was reported a new stock pot had been purchased for the kitchen and also the stove burners appear to be fixed.
Dorcas: Wilma reported nine at sewing the previous day and two quilts and four tops were finished and one quilt taken to someone who is ill.
Cards, Flowers & Gifts: It was reported the usual cards had been sent, as well as Christmas cards and money orders will be sent to those in service.
Study & Devotions/Mission Outreach: The Least Coin Offering and the Prayer of the Least Coin was read in unison. New program books were handed out.
The UMW bew Shepherdess is Vic Patterson. On the UPW, tt was mentioned the District communications/newsletters from both denominations are always available by email.
The next regular meeting will be 2 p.m. Jan. 14. Wilma will provide mediation and Cathy will be the hostess.
Dorcas will meet on January 13 and 17 and February 10 and 24. Work Committees: December: Cathy and Ann; January: Carol and Cathy.
Following a motion to adjourn the Closing Creed was read together. Deb thanked Cathy for making the arrangements for the luncheon. Deb closed with 'You may give without loving, but you cannot love without giving,” and also read John 3:16.
Wayne and Debbie Lowe attended the college graduation of their granddaughter, Kaelyn Brisky, on December 14, 2019 from the University of Wisconsin- Stout, as she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in the Department of Rehabilitation Services. Kaelyn is the daughter of Lance and Karen Brisky of Egan, MN.
Arvid and Joan Anderson observed their 70th Wedding Anniversary on Friday, December 27 at home with their daughter, Kay Traeger coming from Des Moines.
In January, they will get together with family for a belated Christmas and Anniversary celebration in Waterloo, with their daughter, Kay and son, Ed Anderson and wife, Leanne of Nashua and their children and families, Tim and Shelby Walsten, Tobias, Finley and Anderson; Taylor and Amy Anderson and children, Leighton, Maxwell and Harlyn; and Joe and Kaytlyn Anderson Kuebler, all from the Waterloo area.
The families are looking forward to this time together.
The annual Christmas drawing sponsored by the Crawfordsville Lions Club on Saturday was well attended and Carolyn Love was the lucky recipient of the $100 Grand Prize.
An early Christmas dinner was held Sunday at the United Church for members of the late Cleo and Arlene Fletcher family. Those present were Larry and Donna Fletcher of Crawfordsville; Steve and Pam Green of Washington, Jacob Green and Zoey Thompson of Sigourney; Fletcher Green and Samantha Milder of North Liberty; Mick and Kathy Garris of Winfield; Charley and Jen Dill, Aliyah, Garrison, Halle and Sienna of St. Louis; Troy Garris and Rod Salasay of MN; Erik and Bekah Garris, Clinton and Calvin of Arvada, CO; Robin Fletcher and Mike Rolling, Corey and Amy Mellies, Lily, Claire and Oliver, all of Ames; and Kaleb and Linsey Zimmerman, Henry, John, Kate and Sam of Cedar Falls.
That evening in the home of Larry and Donna Fletcher their immediate family celebrated Christmas with Steve and Pam Green of Washington; Jacob Green and Zoey Thompson of Sigourney; Fletcher Green and Samantha Milder of North Liberty; Brad and Carol Fletcher; Emma Fletcher and Ryleigh Reed and Clint Fletcher and Maddie Hersom, all of Cedar Falls.
The Crawfordsville Fire Department will hold a Soup Supper, Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Crawfordsville Fire Station from 4-7 p.m. Chili, Potato and Beef Enchilada will be served for a free will offering. A raffle drawing will be held at 7 p.m. for guns and a monetary prize. Need not be present to win.
