Kenny and Loree Stogdill have returned from a six-and-a-half week trip to Alaska. They had a wonderful time, camping along the way and visiting the states of South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota and Alaska, as well as Alberta. Yukon and British Columbia in Canada. Highlights of the trip included seeing Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, several national parks, including Yellowstone and Denali, North Pole in Alaska, Dawson City in Yukon and Chicken, Alaska – a small community living off the grid. They also enjoyed a five hour glacial cruise in Prince William Sound out of Whittier, Alaska, where they saw beautiful glaciers, sea otters, whales and porpoises. Bison, elk, caribou, black and white grizzly bears, moose and prairie dogs were plentiful. They also saw a wolf, a lynx, a red fox and several porcupines. The scenery was breathtaking, the weather was great, the people along the way were friendly and Kenny and Loree said that if this is on your bucket list, 'just do it!”
The Crooked Creek 4-H Club is doing a service project where they are packing 200 toiletry bags for the Stead Family Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. They have had quite a list, but at this time mouthwash and shaving cream is all that is needed. Items need to be travel size. They are collecting items until Sept. 8 and there is a container in the narthex at the United Church of Crawfordsville where items can be left.
On Aug. 25 at 5 p.m., Crooked Creek Christian Camp is hosting its annual Sing & S'mores. Everyone will join together in song and snacks as they welcome Shawn Graber as chorister. This will be held at the Sunset Shelter by the pond. Bring lawn chairs.
