The 89th annual alumni banquet of Crawfordsville High School was held at the United Church of Crawfordsville on June 14, 2014. There were 78 graduates and friends present.
Larry Fletcher gave the welcome and presided at the business meeting which was held before the banquet meal. Entertainment consisted of a quiz about various events that took place during high school days. Out-of-state guests were from Illinois, California, Texas, Oregon, Kansas and Minnesota.
The delicious ham dinner was prepared by Janet Whiting, Ann Lewis, Nancy Rugg, Pam Davis and Jeanne Davis. Several friends assisted in serving the meal.
The theme of the banquet was "Remember the Good Old Days." Table decorations were done in the school colors of red and white. Old schoolbooks, school bells and apples added to the decor.
Ruth Davis Erwin read minutes from the previous meeting. Phyllis Lowe Eisele gave the treasurer's report. Gerry Chalupa Farrier read correspondence from Robert Jones and Joe Rupp. A video of all the graduating classes was shown on a screen. School songs were sung by everyone, accompanied by Lucille Gault Humphreys at the piano.
The oldest graduate present was Marie Clark Lowe from the Class of 1935. She was accompanied by her son, Don Lowe, who represented the Class of 1964. Kathy Fletcher Garris was also present from the Class of 1964. Erwen Graber was present from the Class of 1937. Wilma Wooley McAllister was present from the Class of 1944.
Those present from the Class of 1949 were: JoAnn Chalupa Swift, Lucille Gault Humphreys, Bill Mitchell and Barbara Rathmell Koskamp. The Class of 1954 was represented by Carole Ann Banks Loeffler, Pat Fisher Owens and Janice Cheney Welch. Those present from the Class of 1955 were Gerry Chalupa Farrier and Ellen Edgar Waggoner.
Deaths recorded since last year were Yula Rose Widmer, Class of 1934; Dale Johnston, Class of 1942; Evelyn Williams Tiemeyer, Class of 1943; Harry Dean Suter, Class of 1944; Lyle Darbyshire, Class of 1947, Norman Waters, Class of 1950 and Mary Anderson Hall, Class of 1951.
Four graduates still maintain a longtime record of never missing a banquet since graduating. They are Cleo McCoy, Kenny Beenblossom, Viola Hering Beenblossom and Pat Fisher Owens.
The people who planned the banquet were Phyllis Eisele, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Pat and Daryl Owens, and Ruth Erwin. Helen and Chuck Odell also helped with Friday night preparations.
The evening adjourned with everyone singing "God Bless America."
The Dorcas group at the United Church of Crawfordsville report they have recently completed 44 T-shirt dresses and have worked on lap quilts at their last two meetings. The ladies meet the second and fourth Mondays of each month and work on various sewing projects to be given to missions. In a month or two they will begin the task of making school bags for the Ingathering in the fall.
They would like to thank those who have given them material, threads and other sewing supplies that are needed to continue their sewing projects.
