The Iowa Mid-Winter Cheminot, 40 and Eight was held the weekend of Feb. 27-28. The evening of Feb. 27 was Hospitality Night at the Veterans Hall in Mount Pleasant with 10 members and guests present. Chef de Gare Locale Dean King of Mount Pleasant and kitchen staff provided an evening meal of choice.
The business meeting was held Saturday morning, Feb. 28 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with 13 members present. Grand Chef de Gare David Bries of Epworth opened the proceedings, and was assisted by Grande Correspondant Larry Williamson of Plainfield.
Other Grand Officers gave reports of their committees. Grande Box Car Director Alan LePage of Epworth presented Correspondant Locale Dean A. Slater of Washington, and formerly of Crawfordsville, with his second Commemorative Box Car Coin for his many years of support of the program. Grand Chef Bries also presented him with a special pin for many years of continued service as Correspondant Locale.
After the closing ceremonies, a noon meal was enjoyed by members and wives.
Eight members and five guests of the White Cloud Club met at Sassy's Cafe in Wayland, on Tuesday, March 3. They enjoyed an evening of fellowship and delicious food. Two Mystery Sisters gifts were given.
Those attending were Lennis and Eldon Beichter, Julia Bletscher, Jolene and Andy Colthurst, Joyce Huff, Betty and Gene Lintz, Pat and Gene Miller, Pauline and Floyd Richardson, and Virginia Sands.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 7, at the Ainsworth Four Corners.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room. Sixteen members were present.
After President Mindy Rochwick led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Darrell Egli gave the opening prayer, the president introduced two guests: Roman and Robin Kiefer of Crawfordsville.
Following a delicious meal prepared and served by Alice Hochstetler, Lion Secretary Nancy Love, the Diabetes Awareness Chairperson for District 9SE, gave a very interesting and informative presentation of Diabetes Awareness.
The meeting then reconvened. The minutes of the Feb. 23 meeting were approved as read. The treasurer gave his report.
Correspondence was read: A thank-you from a Crawfordsville resident for the gift she had received at the Christmas drawing; a thank-you from Camp Courageous for the club's donation; a letter from LCIF Chair indicating the club has enough money for a Melvin Jones award. It was duly noted that the club will also have enough for a Warren Coleman award.
New Business: Road cleanup will take place Saturday, April 4. Lions will meet at the flagpole at 9 a.m.
The upcoming district convention was brought to the attention of the club members.
The Tail Twister once again tried to stump the club with trivia.
The meeting adjourned.
