The United Church Women of the United Church of Crawfordsville met at the church on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014. Also attending were Pastor Jason Collier and one guest, Rose Bixby.
A potluck lunch was hosted by Joyce Huff and Debbie Lowe.
Following lunch, President Lowe called the meeting to order. Excerpts by Helen Steiner Rice and W. Montgomery, taken from "Treasured Stories of Christmas Undelivered Gifts," were read by Lowe.
Members read together the UCW Opening Creed.
UCW members returned the "Blessing Containers" they took home a year ago. Members placed offerings in the containers throughout the year to recognize the blessings in their lives. The offerings will be given to the WACO school nurse for student needs.
The Dorcas group met on Nov. 24 and assembled 30 "Holiday Boxes" filled with cookies, fruit and goodies to be taken to area persons by UCW members. A gift quilt was given to a UCW member. There will be no sewing on Dec. 22. Sewing will resume on Monday, Jan. 12. Fourteen quilts have been taken to the Fellowship Cup to be given to persons during the Christmas food sack distribution.
Thank-you notes have been received from WACO grade school students for the quilts given them.
Christmas cards will be sent to eight servicemen and women with local ties.
Program books for 2015 were distributed by Pauline Richardson.
The Fellowship of the Least Coin was recited in unison with the offering taken.
The next regular UCW meeting will be Jan. 13. Hostess will be Donna Fletcher. Members were reminded of upcoming church events. Winfield's Selah Christmas Concert was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Winfield United Presbyterian Church. All were invited to attend. A Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held at the United Church of Crawfordsville on Dec. 24, at 7 p.m.
President Lowe adjourned the meeting; the Closing Creed was recited together.
Wilma McAllister entertained family members at an early Christmas on Sunday. Dec. 14.
Members of Frieda Finke's family enjoyed an early Christmas dinner at Jerry's in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, Dec. 14.
Attending were Barb and Phil Deats, Bill and Cindy Finke, Jabe and Dana Finke, Gunner and Tynley, Cheryl Stagner, David and Tiffany Finke, Carter, Reece and Cooper and Andrew and Kelly Finke.
