The United Church Women met Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the United Church of Crawfordsville with 12 members present.
Ruth Erwin gave the meditation about faith and always being ready to help others and doing good for others.
President Debbie Lowe called the meeting to order and the Opening Creed was read together.
Secretary Billie Jo read the minutes of the July 12 meeting. They were approved as read.
Treasurer Pat Miller gave the treasurer?s report and it will be filed for audit.
A thank-you note was read from one camp girl.
Committee Reports: Local Activities: Several supplies had been purchased.
Dorcas: Wilma reported many school bags have been finished and several quilts have been finished with more ready to tie. Donna also had made many T-shirt dresses.
Cards, flowers and gifts: Many cards had been sent.
Pauline presented the Word Thank Offering program which emphasized supporting the Mission of Churches Worldwide and working for justice and peace . The Mission for Women began in 1818.
The World Thank Offering was taken, as well as the regular offering and Offering of the Lease Coin was taken and the prayer for the Fellowship of the Least Coin was recited.
The Fall Rummage Sale was reported on and deemed a success.
The Lions Club Supper had been served by UCW members on Sept. 12, to members and guests.
The annual Harvest Supper and Sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22.
Ingathering Kits: Helen reported that 169 had been made so far.
Old Business: It was suggested some new baking pans be purchased.
There will be a report next month on where the Blessing Boxes will be used.
New Business: UPW/UMW annual Pledges for 2017 will remain the same as in the past year. The UMW District Board Meeting will be held Monday, March 11, 2017 at our church. There will be a 9 a.m. coffee and lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. for 12-20 people.
Election of Officers and Committees for 2017 was held: President Deb Lowe; Vice President- Clarissa Malmberg; Secretary- Billie Jo Rose; and Treasurer- Pat Miller. Study and Devotions-Mission Outreach- Ruth Erwin, Pauline Richardson and Clarissa Malmberg. Local Activities- Donna Fletcher, Ann Lewis and Carol Steele. Dorcas- Wilma McAllister. Nominating Committee- 1 Year- Cathy Williams; 2 Year- Pauline Richardson and 3 Year- Billie Jo Rose. Cards, Flowers and Gifts- Billie Jo Rose and Cathy Williams.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to elect these officers.
Upcoming Events: UMW S.E. District annual meeting in Burlington, Sept. 24; begins at 8:45 a.m. UPW Annual Fall Gatheriing in Bettendorf October 1 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Next Regular Meeting Oct. 11, Helen will be hostess and have meditations.
Dorcas will meet Monday, Sept. 26 and Oct. 10. Work Committees for September: Cathy and Billie Jo; October: Cathy and Laura. Harvest Sale Supper: Rachel, Pat, Pauline and Donna
Following a motion to adjourn, the Closing Creed was read in unison. Deb thanked Ruth Erwin for being hostess.
Leila enjoyed all the cards she received for her 96th birthday.
Arvid and Joan Anderson and Billie Jo Rose attended the reception for Lions International President Bob Corlew in the International Room of the Chadwick Library on the Campus of Iowa Wesleyan University on Sunday, Sept. 19, from 2:30 - 4 p.m. He also met with members of the state?s newest Campus Lions Club at Iowa Wesleyan. He is from Milton, Tennessee, and is a retired chancellor for the State of Tennessee and a professor of law.
He is on a Centennial Bus Tour of North America, which is part of the 100-year anniversary of the Lions.
This is the first time an International Lions president has ever visited southeast Iowa.
