Thirteen members of Wednesday Study Club met Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Swedesburg Museum for a program on ?Rosie the Riveter.? Trish Woepking presented the program aided by her mother, Louise Unkrich, who was a ?Rosie the Riveter? during WWII. Trish also led a tour of the museum following the program.
Lennis Beichter the hostess for the meeting, and co-hostess Julia Bletscher served delicious refreshments.
The December meeting will be a Christmas Brunch to be held Dec. 16, at the United Church of Crawfordsville. Time for that meeting was changed from 9 to 10 a.m.
Donations of paper products for Lending Hands will be collected at that meeting.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room. Sixteen members were present, along with three guests: Pat Jenkins, Donna Fletcher and Roy Felts.
Lion President Loree Stogdill callled the meeting to order leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and giving the opening prayer. Guest speaker Pat Jenkins spoke about Alzheimer?s and the devastation that the disease can have on families. She also gave ways of supporting Alheimer?s research with various types of fundraisers.
Guest Roy Felts, Crawfordsville Fire Chief, addressed the club with the interest of sharing the expense for a wall-mounted flat screen TV in the community room. It was moved, seconded and approved to donate to this project.
The minutes of the Nov. 9 meeting were approved as read. There was no treasurer?s report.
Old Business: The Blood Drive is Monday, Nov. 30, at the United Church of Crawfordsville. The Christmas lights will be hung the Saturday after Thanksgiving. They will not be lit; research into another solution will happen after the holiday season. It was suggested that the club apply for a mini-grant or ask the City Council for assistance in purchasing new lights or other decorations. The venue of the Dec. 14 Christmas party is yet to be decided. The date for the Pancake Supper was confirmed for Feb. 20, 2016.
New Business: Lion Adam Mitchell asked to have a ?save the date? announcement on the Christmas Drawing cards: July 2, 2016 Crawfordsville Community Club is having a celebration. It was moved, seconded and approved to provide concessions for this event. The Lions will co-sponsor this event. Interest in buying Christmas gifts for a needy family was brought up. Mike will contact Jenny Kaufman at the school for more information. Loree and Nancy will do the shopping. The vote for this project was favorable. The meeting adjourned. Delicious refreshments were provided by Lion Larry Fletcher, Tail Twister, who pulled out yet another far-fetched round of trivia questions.
In church news, Christmas Caroling will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6.
The UCW Christmas Potluck will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8. The committee will provide hot dishes and everyone else is to bring side dishes to share.
