Ernest and Janet Whiting welcomed their first grandchild, Owen Ernest Whiting on Aug. 16, 2015, weighing in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces. Parents are Will and Mindy Whiting of Merriam, Kansas.

Eldon and Lennis Beichter returned Saturday from a 10-day vacation in Kansas, where they attended a Beichter reunion at Nelson's Landing in Leonardville. They also joined cousins Jeanette and Duane Campbell at Kanapolis State Park where they enjoyed camping and fishing. They toured the Salt Mines in Hutchinson and also traveled to Mushroom Rock State Park at Marquette. They especially enjoyed touring an old hotel that was being renovated in Ellinwood, Kansas, where the?re was an underground tunnel under the streets that once held many shops and businesses. Some of the shops, such as barber shops, bathhouse and harness shop can still be viewed.

It is time to Kick Off the new Youth Group year beginning on Sept. 13, at 5:30 p.m. Kickoff is an event that signals the start of youth group, but is very casual and youth can invite all their friends. This event will be held at the Joel Greenes.' Please let AmySara know how many friends you are planning to bring, so there will be plenty of food. Any parents willing to provide food, drinks, games or chaperoning, please let AmySara know. This event will end at 7 p.m.
