SACHA CLUB
Eight members of the Sacha Club met Monday, Dec. 15 at the home of Jolene Colthurst.
President Brenda Bean called the meeting to order and the minutes of the November meeting were approved as read by Linda McNeil. Karen Megchelsen gave the treasurer's report.
Old Business: The Needy Family Project was reported on by Karen and she showed items that were purchased.
New Business: The upcoming Blood Drive is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2026 at the Ainsworth Community Church. Members signed up to bring cookies and the Club will provide sandwiches. Linda will chair the project. Brenda had a quiz on Christmas songs. A game was played to exchange gifts and after several rounds, each was invited to open their gifts, which was a wooden item. All were different, no two alike. Next year will feature a "metal" ornament.
In closing, the Club Collect was read. Jolene served refreshments in the Christmas theme.
The next meeting will be Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 at the Ainsworth Community Church.
LIONS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DRAWING
The first Lions annual Christmas drawing took place in 1954 and 71 years later is still going strong. The first one was held at the old Fire Station east of the Peoples Savings Bank and people had to stand outside in the cold. Around $254 in prizes were awarded, which I am sure back then was a lot of money. Last Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025 over two hundred prizes were given out, many receiving two, as after the first round of gifts were given out there were many more left.
Individuals and businesses from Crawfordsville and the surrounding areas of Columbus Jct., Ainsworth, Washington, Winfield and Wayland communities contributed cash, services, gift certificates, toys, etc.
Needless to say, the local Lions Club is very grateful to everyone who made this a success. At the close the Grand Prize winner is drawn and this year Pam Davis was the lucky recipient.
The event began at noon with the local 4-H Club having a Bake Sale, followed at 12:30 with the arrival of Santa, and then the drawing began at 1 p.m.
Everyone looks forward to this event and the committee that does the soliciting is very much appreciated.
