The descendants of Clarence and Nina Lowe met Sunday, June 9, 2019, in the Fellowship Hall of the United Church of Crawfordsville for a family reunion.
Those enjoying the potluck dinner together were the family of Earl and Ina Mae Lowe: Wayne of Debbie Lowe of Columbus Junction; the Lyle (Dude) and Marie Lowe family: Phyllis Lowe Eisele of Washington and guest, Allaire George of Waterloo, Mary Lowe Fabian of Coralville, Don Lowe of Cedar Rapids and Larry and Tammy Lowe and Kara Lowe of Crawfordsville; the Maxine Lowe Miller and Don Miller family: Terry and Joyce Miller of Denver, Iowa, Dr. Neil and Betty Haars of Shalimar, Fla. and Peg Twait of Winona, Minn.; the family of Arlene Lowe Fletcher and Cleo Fletcher: Larry and Donna Fletcher of Crawfordsville and Steve and Pam Green of Washington; the family of Betty Lowe McCoy and Cleo McCoy: Bob and Robyn Lamb of Washington, Lorna McCoy of Iowa City and Craig and Karen McCoy of Crawfordsville.
The hosts for this year's dinner were the Miller family.
Everyone enjoyed the bountiful dinner and recalling memories and visiting.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, June 10, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room with 16 members and one guest, Shirley Massey, present.
Lion President Adam Mitchell opened the meeting by leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Secretary Nancy Love gave the invocation. The minutes of the May 13, 2019, meeting were approved as read. The treasurer gave is report. Thank-you notes were received from WACO After Prom for the club's donation and from Clara Schmitz, the club's scholarship recipient. A letter was received from Camp Courageous asking for a donation. It was moved, seconded and approved to donate to the camp.
OLD BUSINESS: The recent blood drive went very well with 49 donors. As this was the first time the club had partnered with the WACO Elementary School, there was correspondence between Lion David Jewell, the principal of the school and the person in charge of the blood drive on how to involve parents and teachers. Lion Randy was thanked for painting the Community Room and it was moved, seconded and approved to make a donation to the Iowa Lions Foundation in his name.
Lion Secretary Nancy reported on the State Convention which she attended June 7 and 8 in Cedar Rapids. The hot item of business brought before the voting delegates was the issue of the Iowa Lions Magazine and the fact that each member is no longer receiving a printed copy The convention delegates defeated the motion to return to printed copies for each member stating that it would cause an increase in dues. Lion Nancy also reported that she had attained her goal of $32,000 for the Foundation, which was 100 percent for District 9SE. She also mentioned District 9SE was on top of all districts for donations.
NEW BUSINESS: The Ball Park cleanup for Crawfordsville Fun Days, which are July 5 and 6 will be 9 a.m. on Friday, July 5. The Lions will be serving lunch beginning at noon on Saturday, July 6. The menu will consist of pork burgers, hot dogs, chips and pop.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned, followed with a couple of trivia questions from the club's Trivia Master.
There is a change in the dates for Vacation Bible School. It will be held August 5-9 from 5:30-8 p.m. The theme this year is Jungle Safari. Directors are asking that everyone save the cardboard rolls form paper towels and toilet tissue for a craft project. There is a box labeled VBS located in the entryway under the big table to put them in.
