The regular meeting of Chapter L of the National T.T.T. Society was held on Monday, May 20 at the Olds United Church of Christ. President Barb Shelman called the meeting to order and opened the meeting with the group singing the Sword of Gold.
Roll call 'A Health Habit You Practice” was answered by 10 members.
CORRESPONDENCE: A thank-you note was read from Caitlin Havel, past camper for the graduation gift card.
The treasurer's report was given by treasurer Missy Fear and will be filed for audit.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Camp:
A shower was held for camp girls, Carlee Lunsford, Tatiyanna Barklow and Courtney Waterhouse prior to the meeting. Their parents were in attendance as well. The girls opened their clothing and camp items and all were very excited about going to camp.
Camp Chair Nancy McGohan and President Shelman met with the Friends of Conservation board and they agreed to donate toward the cost of sending the girls to camp. They have posted a picture of past campers that was taken at the Henry County Conservation Center on their website. Nancy invited their members to come to the June meeting to hear the girls' camp reports. Their flyer was passed around to members who would like to become a member of their organization.
The girls will be attending Camp Wyoming the week of June 2-7. Nancy and Barb will take the girls to meet the bus in Mt. Pleasant. Rachelle and Marlys Fear will pick the girls up on Friday night and return them home.
Nancy reported Anywear Apparel donated T-shirts to the girls and Missy purchased purple T.T.T. T-shirts for the girls at the Iowa State Convention. It was decided to have the girls wear the T.T.T. shirts on Sunday.
CAMP GIRLS GIFTS: Pat Miller reported she had sent March, April and May birthday cards and gift cards to past campers and two graduation cards with gift cards.
WAYS & MEANS: Karolyn Crawford reported on the proceeds from tip night at the Washington Pizza Ranch. Karolyn, Missy, Pat Miller and Barb were thanked for working . Leah Woline will contact the Mt. Pleasant Pizza Ranch to secure a date for tip night there.
BILLS FOR PAYMENT: Pat Miller presented a bill for graduation gift cards. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay this bill.
ADJOURNMENT: President Shelman thanked Ruth Erwin and Betty Molander for refreshments for the girls and their parents. The next meeting is June 24 at the Olds United Church of Christ. The girls will be present to tell their camp experiences. Founders Day will be celebrated as well. Hostesses for the next meeting are Nancy McGohan and Joan Rodgers.
The meeting adjourned with the Closing Creed.
Larry and Donna Fletcher hosted a dinner for relatives and friends at the United Church of Crawfordsville following services Memorial Day. Donna's brother, Bob Knight, Spec. 4, Vietnam War Veteran of Clarence, Iowa, gave the main address at the services. He gave a very interesting and heart-rending account of his experiences in the war.
Attending the dinner were Bob and his wife, Joyce; Pam and Steve Green of Washington; Fletcher Green and Sam Milder of Iowa City; Jacob Green and Zoey Thompson of Sigourney; Brad and Carol Fletcher of Cedar Falls, Phyllis Eisele of Washington and Wayne and Debbie Lowe, Gene and Pat Miller, Lance Miller, all of Crawfordsville and Lindsey Miller of Cedar Rapids.
Pentecost Sunday is June 9 and is 50 days after Easter Day. It celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus and recognizes the day the church was established. The congregation is encouraged to wear red on Sunday, June 9 to commemorate this special day of the Christian year.
