Fourteen members of Wednesday Study Club met at the United Church of Crawfordsville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, for their annual salad supper. Members who were on the losing side of the reading contest held the previous club year each brought a salad to serve and co-hostesses Debbie Lowe, Rachel Koehler and Marie Dare provided main dishes and desserts.
Following a short business meeting led by Cathy Williams, program booklets for the 2015-16 club year were distributed and program chairman Debbie Lowe explained the plans for the year. Each month has a plan for an interesting program.
As reading chairperson, Wilma McAllister then gave a summary of the contest ended last year. She also distributed lists of favorite books that had been read and led in drawing names for the reading contest for the new club year. Team captains for the 2015 club year will be Ruth Erwin and Pauline Richardson.
Community Improvement chairperson Helen Lease reported that she had made the proper contacts and weeds had been pulled around the former cafe to give the downtown a better appearance. She also had several of the Crawfordsville picture postcards that had been printed several years earlier to turn over to the club.
The remainder of the evening was spent in fellowship and visiting. The next meeting will be on Oct. 21 with visits to the Winfield Museum and the New London Dover Museum.
The 79th annual reunion of the descendants of Richard and Jane Williams was held Sunday, Sept. 20, at 12:30 p.m. at the Pizza Ranch in Washington, with 21 in attendance.
A brief time was spent updating everyone of each others changes during the year in regard to births, deaths and marriages. Attending were: Richard, Erika, Eli, Aidan and Caeley Arthur of Iowa City; Jay Greene and Allen and Marlene Jones of Ainsworth; Ivan and Cristal Arthur of Columbus Junction; Scott and Jeanne Davis and Harold Williams of Crawfordsville; Joyce Hamilton of Conesville; Frances Lowe of Winfield; Jed Steckel of Davenport; Melanie Steckel of Blue Grass; Marshal Rose of Donnellson and Angel, Amber and Peyton Davis of Wayland.
Next year's reunion will be held on the third Sunday in September, with the site to be determined.
