Selin Yildiz of Gelsenkirchen, Germany arrived Jan. 17, to make her home with Jason and Christina Collier, Joey, Lexi, Izzy, Jeremy and Jessup. She is an exchange student with One World Education Exchange and will be here until June. Gelsenkirchen is near Cologne, Germany.
Selin is 15 years old and a Junior at WACO High School. When she returns home she will resume her classes as a sophomore. Her family consists of her father and mother and two sisters, one 9 years old and one 4 years. Her father owns 10 Satellite stores (from what I understand, the equivalent of Verizon). She is from a very large city and has 200 in her class compared to the whole WACO School.
Her family is of Turkish origin.
She has an exchange student friend who she met when traveling and who is living in Kalona.
She is interested in learning of the culture here and all the differences in our country. One difference she has had to adjust to is, we are on the same schedule every day in our schools, and at home in Germany she goes at different times each day and each day can end at a different time. Also, Selin can?t believe how Americans drive everywhere. At home everyone walks or bikes. Welcome, Selin!!
In church news, there will be a Pancake Supper at 6:30 p.m. with Ash Wednesday services following at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Ainsworth Community Church.
