Seven women from the United Church Women of Crawfordsville joined several from the Ainsworth Community Church on March 2, for World Day of Prayer.
The day began with a delicious luncheon followed by a program on the Philippines. It is made up of over 7,000 islands and is very heavily populated. The population has tripled since 1948 and the official estimate was over 81 million in 2000. By 2030 it is predicted the population will double based on its 1999 growth rate of 2.3 percent. Their population is young with people aged 15-64 making up 59 percent of the population, while those over 65 make up only 4 percent. In the Philippines, domestic workers, which are 90 percent women account for one-third of those who work outside the country.
It is a great tourist attraction and its main crops are cotton and rice.
The next lunch at the Ainsworth Four Corners for the United Church of Crawfordsville and the Ainsworth Community Church is Sunday, March 19.
Spring Clean-up at the United Church of Crawfordsville is scheduled for Saturday, March 25, with the rain date of April 1.
There will be a Hymn Sing at Ainsworth Community Church at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26.
