Wednesday Study Club met at the church on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 2 p..m. with all 14 members present. Guest speaker for the afternoon was Rosemary Pacha who spoke on the subject of tea, how it became a popular drink, and customs evolving from enjoying tea. She gave the history of tea in the world, its beginning in China, and how it eventually came to the rest of the world, and the use of tea with people in history. A display of pictures, many of which were those of U.S. presidents? wives entertaining guests with tea, was set up in the hallway for members to enjoy a display that had originally been used at the Herbert Hoover Library in West Branch.
Hostesses Deb Lowe and Ruth Erwin continued the topic by hosting a ?low tea? for the group. Many flavors of tea along with dainty pastries were served. Table decorations carried out the theme. Members told stories about the special teacups they had brought to use, and if they had worn hats as had been encouraged. The stories connected to those hats were also shared. It was an informative and ?fun? afternoon.
After the program, President Cathy Williams opened the business meeting with the usual flag salute and reading the club collect. Minutes were read and the treasurer?s report given. Very little business was brought before the group.
The next meeting will be on May 18 with a tour of Lake Darling. Janice Twinam is in charge of arrangements and the club call before the meeting will inform members of details.
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room, with 12 members and one guest, Becky Kremer, present.
Lion President Loree Stogdill called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Larry Fletcher gave the invocation. The minutes of the April 11 meeting were approved as read and the treasurer?s report indicated no activity in either account.
Becky Kremer came to update the club on what is happening for the Crawfordsville Celebration July 2. The club had agreed to co-sponsor the event, and will be providing lunch at the Ball Park. The menu will be established at the next meeting, probably pork burgers and hot dogs.
The subject of leftover meat from the pancake supper was brought up. It was suggested the Fire Department might be interested in the sausage for their breakfast on July 2.
Lion Nancy Love updated the club on the WACO Leo Club. Faculty advisor is Barbi Roth, and there are 11 students in the club. They meet quarterly and do service projects.
It was brought to the club?s attention they` had received the Governor?s Volunteer Award for road cleanup.
As the club has sufficient funds, the past three presidents will determine the next recipient/recipients of the Warren Coleman Award.
The meeting adjourned, followed by trivia with Tail Twister Larry Fletcher.
Refreshments were served by Lance Miller.
