Crawfordsville News: Club updates and reminders

Ten members of the Crawfordsville Wednesday Study Club met at the Ainsworth Four Corners for a noon Dutch treat lunch on Wednesday, Oct. 17. A brief business meeting was conducted following the lunch.
The group then reassembled at the Washington County Conservation Center at Marr Park, the program theme being 'Exploring Marr Park.” There Pam Holtz gave an overview of all the Washington County Park and Recreational Area including information about land management, education and proposed educational displays.
The club's next meeting will be held at the United Church of Crawfordsville on Nov. 14, at 2 p.m., the theme being 'Exploring Things You Are Thankful For.”
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Community Room with eight members and three guests, Cara Sorrells, Jack Seward and Richard Young present. Lion President Adam Mitchell called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Larry Fletcher offered prayer.
Secretary pro tem Lion Billie Jo Rose presented minutes of the Oct. 8, meeting, which were discussed, but no motion was made to approve them and they will be addressed at the Nov. 12 meeting.
There was no treasurer's report.
Old Business:
Several items of old business were discussed including the Crawfordsville Fun Days and the September Pancake Breakfast.
New Business:
The American Legion Halloween Party at the WACO Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 31, with citywide trick-or-treating to follow. Homes wishing to participate should have their porch lights on.
District 9SE Fall Fest on Nov. 3 at the Alpaca Farm near Wayland.
Mississippi Valley Blood Drive, sponsored by the Crawfordsville Lions Club, will be held on Monday, Dec. 3, from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the United Church of Crawfordsville.
Following the business meeting, guests, Cara Sorrells, Dispatcher at Washington County Law Center and Jack Seward and Richard Yong, representing the Washington County Board of Supervisors, presented a program on the proposed new Washington County Communications and Emergency Operations Center and the replacement of all radios for law enforcement, fire and EMS in the county, including pagers, mobiles and base units.
As there was no further business to come before the club, the meeting adjourned.
Reminder that the United Church of Crawfordsville will have a soup supper on Saturday evening, Nov. 3, from 4:30-7 p.m. Chili, oyster and chicken noodle soup will be served along with relishes and desserts. Following the supper, The MadCreek Mudcats, featuring Dixieland and Ragtime music will entertain. This is a freewill offering.
The Worship Committee at the U. C.of C. is sponsoring their annual HACAP Drive during the month of November. Donations of food items and paper products may be brought to the church and placed in the grocery cart or at the altar Nov. 4 through the evening of Nov. 21 (Thanksgiving Eve Service). Please do not bring perishable food and be mindful of the expiration dates on the food items. Dish soap and detergent are also welcome.
