Today I am writing about Lexi Collier, daughter of Pastor Jason and Christina Collier, and a 2020 WACO graduate. Lexi's siblings are older brother, Joey and younger sister, Izzy and brothers, Jeremy and Jessup. WACO's graduation was originally scheduled May 17, 2020 and will now be held on June 20, 2020.
In the midst of everything going on with COVID-19, Lexi decided to not let it put a damper on her graduation party and decided to hold it on what was the original day of graduation. She opted to have a drive-thru party. Signs were setup to keep cars flowing in the same direction, the front yard was decorated and Lexi greeted friends and family with cupcakes, decorated in the school colors of blue and white, some special treats and water, while collecting many good wishes from passersby. Her grandparents, Jim and Carole Collier from Davenport and her aunt and uncle Rebekah and Tred Schnoor and their four children from Monticello, IA, along with their niece, Tyanne Crotty from Pembina, ND. all came to help.
The day was a great success, as around 70 vehicles passed by and they handed out over 120 cupcakes.
One of the highlights for Lexi was having her boss bring a pig to the party from Kaufman Show pigs. You are probably wondering why the pig? Well, Lexi has been working on the Kaufman farm and loves the farrowing barn, she has helped with breeding, birthing and raising of hogs. She also has helped with the planting and harvesting of crops, as well as hauling manure for the fields.
Lexi plans to attend college to become a veterinary tech and hopes she will be able to run a farrowing house. She was involved in many activities in an out of school. In school, she was part of a Quiz Bowl, was a basketball cheerleader and participated in track. In track, Lexi was a discus thrower and ran the 100 meter dash. Her senior year she was planning to perform in two of the school plays.
In March 2020 she was named Pork Princess at a banquet at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort. Her duties have been cut short because of the virus and fair activities have been altered. The reign is for one year and then it will be time for another girl to take over.
Out of school she worked as much as possible. For a summer she worked at BowWow Bubbles Meow helping bathe and groom pets.
Lexi has also kept herself busy helping with vacation Bible School, children's time and Kids Club at both the United Church of Crawfordsville and Ainsworth Community Church, where she attends. She has also been involved in Washington County 4-H and has shown swine, photography, horticulture and has been part of the dog obedience and agility classes.
As you can see Lexi has not let COVID-19 hold her back and is working to accomplish her goals.
