This week's senior spotlight is on Grace Hiller, daughter of Don and Ruchel Hiller. Grace has an older brother, Darren.
She will graduate Saturday, June 20, 2020 from WACO High School. Her family has planned a graduation party on July 11, 2020 with family and friends. Grace's future plans include attending cosmetology school - although she is undecided as to where at the present time.
During her time at WACO Grace has participated in choir, played flute and piccolo in band and marching band, viola in orchestra and has done makeup/sound/lights for the Drama Department. Grace is the only graduating senior that has been a member of choir, band and orchestra her entire high school career. She participated in Solo and Ensemble Contests and UNI Marching Band Day. This spring she had two photographs displayed at Art Domestique's 2020 Budding Artists Show.
Outside of school Grace has been very active in 4-H. She is a member of Crooked Creek 4-H Club and a Junior Leader of the Clover Cookers. Her project areas have included Visual Arts, Photography, Pride of Iowa, Goat, Sheep, $15 Challenge, Garden, Poultry and Rabbits. She has been a Clover Kid Rabbit and Goat mentor. She also has attended the FarmHER conference in Ames.
Along with her family, She raises rabbits and poultry. Grace has been showing both in open shows since she was very young, and has helped host the Iowa Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders Fall Harvest Show and has also helped host the annual Eastern Iowa Poultry Association show.
When Grace isn't binge watching Netflix or doing things with her friends, she works at St. Ave. BP at Olds.
In reflecting how the Virus has affected Grace's life, she says it's been very hard having to stay away from family and friends in just everyday functions. She is also sad that after 13 years together in school she and her classmates haven't been able to have the closure of prom and graduation in the normal sense.
It has also made the work life more much more difficult, with all the precautions they have to take to just do their routine jobs.
