Joe and Alice Hochstetler spent Christmas and 10 days together with all their family at Destin, Florida. They enjoyed a lot of time on the beach and in the pool with their children and grandchildren, J.B. and Carl Hochstetler, Noah, Greta and Mussie, Tim and Kim Hochstetler, Alena, Bennett and Corina, Matt and Ilona Roberts and Grady and Lara Hochstetler.
Former resident Sandy Rich Hasler of Craig, Colorado, is spending time in a rehabilitation center in Denver, CO. She is on IV antibiotics to fight a staph infection in her spine. She had back surgery in August and seemed to be doing OK until just before Thanksgiving when she began not feeling well. She became pretty ill before the doctors diagnosed her problem and she was transferred to Denver for treatment. As of now, the plans are to be able to return to her home at the end of January.
She would appreciate mail and cards. They may be sent to her home: Sandra Hasler, P.O. Box 928, Craig, CO 81626.
Congratulations to WACO High School senior Lennon McClanahan who is being recognized for his part in a physics research project at Coe College. He has been a part of their Talented and Gifted program learning about material sciences and making modifications to a type of glass that can be known to increase physical and optical properties. Through his connection with the TAG program he was selected to take part in a summer physics research academy at the college last year, working alongside professors focusing on ionic conductibility of different types of glass along with looking into medical detectors and trying to create a detector medium for medical x-rays.
Lennon is the only high school student in a group of seven researchers that will be published in the European Journal of Glass Science and Technology Part B. This publication could be released as early as February. He states "this work is very important." Their findings could greatly reduce the cost of certain scans and make it widely available to everyone.
He is very grateful to all the professors that he worked with during the summer academy. He has received a $32,00 scholarship from Coe. Although he is still undecided where he will further his education, he plans to pursue a degree in physics or computer science.
Lennon is the son of Chad and Robin McClanahan of Crawfordsville.
