Daniel J. Townsend

Daniel J. Townsend, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Arbor Court, of Mt. Pleasant.

The family will host a celebration of Townsend?s life on Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Moose Lodge, in Mt. Pleasant.

Townsend was born on April 12, 1945, in Springfield, Ill., the son of Robert and Eileen Huber Townsend. He was a 1963 graduate of Griffin High School, in Springfield, Ill. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air National Guard. He was honorably discharged in December of 1966. He married Kay (Raines) on July 24, 1965. They later divorced. On June 14, 1985, he married Karen Joyce Crawford, in Fairfield.

After his service in the National Guard, he worked in southeast Iowa for Stith and Devinger. He became a plumber, and in 1994, went to work for Brockway Mechanical, in Burlington. He then was employed by Pro-Plumbing, in Burlington, from which he retired in 2007.

He enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds, gardening, growing flowers, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Bengals, and NASCAR.

Townsend is survived by his wife, Karen, of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Dawn (Phil) Hendrickson, of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Pat Townsend, of Castle Rock, Colo.; a step-son, Daniel Crawford, of Fairfield; two brothers, Mike Townsend, of Springfield, Ill., and Dave (Michelle) Townsend, of Chatham, Ill.; seven sisters, Nancy (Carl) Saladino, of Springfield, Ill., Jean Townsend, of Springfield, Ill., Mary Teresa Ballentine, of Chatham, Ill., Pat (Bill) Anderson, of Springfield, Ill., Carol Townsend, of Springfield, Ill., Janet (Chuck) Reynolds, of Springfield, Ill., and Marilyn (Joe) Mueller, of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren; and a step-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tommy Townsend.
